Skincare Routine Oct 2010

I am having good skin these days and very happy about it. Routine and habit as follow.

AM

  • Wash my face with Olay Total Effects facial cleanser with cold water
  • Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Bi-Phase serum
  • Clarins HydraQuench cream
  • Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair Eye
  • Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Sheer Glowing Skin SPF25 / PA++

PM

  • Remove makeup with Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover
  • Wash my face with Olay Total Effects facial cleanser with cold water
  • Clarins Shaping Facial Lift
  • Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex
  • Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair Eye

EXERCISE AND EATING HABIT

  • No spicy food
  • Drink 2 litres of water a day
  • Yoga twice a week
  • No alcohol
  • Clarins facial once a month

RESULT

  • Comfortable skin
  • Smooth skin, REALLY
  • Non oily, but bright glowing skin
  • Pores at reasonable size (not too big although still visible)
  • With the BB cream, my skin is dewy but not oily, it stays reasonably good even after my long day (went home at 9pm), or after having lunch outdoor. It covers imperfection well enough, I do not need to carry pressed powder with me. After lunch, at most I only need to blot (this is not always necessary)

My Skin Profile

I have sensitive skin that chooses to react in whichever way it pleases.

When I was a teenager and in my 20s, I had oily sensitive skin that waprone to redness, skin flaring, and breakouts. Every time I went for facial, the beauticians would say that I had “oily dehydrated skin”. In my 30s, my skin became dry and it has a different way to show unhappiness. Skin flaring still happens, but it is also accompanied by the swollen eyelids and a red itchy patch on my neck. It is then followed by skin peeling all over my face – the whole process can take a week or so.

Anyway my skin has a warm tone, it’s NC20 per MAC’s measurement and I used Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich foundation in Beige.

My living condition that influence my skin includes my 9-to-6 working in a (moderate) air conditioned office, in a tropical country of Singapore.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer

I had this in Beige.

The texture is very creamy, and the colour is good for my skin. However when put it on it gets very heavy and too creamy for my liking. It is good for undereye, although now Bobbi recommends us to use a Corrector before the Concealer. When I did try corrector and concealer, the result was good but too heavy for my skin. Did not like that at all.

When put on my cheek to cover redness, my skin looks smooth after I finished with my makeup. However in the afternoon in my heavily air-conditioned office, my skin showed signs of peeling.

Will not be repurchasing. I had difficulties to even finish it, only used it for less than 20 times overall.

L’Oreal True Match Foundation

I had this in W3. The finish was quite nice, it was powdery, not heavy, and the colour somewhat matches my skin tone. However it sort of disappeared off my face after a couple of hours, it did not last at all.

The price of this was not as high as Bobbi as it is a drugstore product. However I will not repurchase as I don’t like the result. I used this less than 10 times before I decided to stop using it.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation SPF15

Colour

I have this in NC20. This was recommended by the Sales Assistant, however I feel that the colour is either too light or too pale or too cold for me.

Coverage

This liquid foundation provides medium coverage.  Maybe because it absorbs oil, I also have the feeling that it dries up my face. I can see peeling skin on my forehead a few hours after application.

Application

It needs to be applied and blended as soon as I put it on my skin, if I’m not fast enough it dries up and gets cakey. I feel that no powder is necessary after this, as it mattes-out my skin and I’m afraid that adding powder will only make my face even more ghostly.

Price

Expensive, about SGD 60-70, similar price to Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich foundation.

Summary

Definitely not going to repurchase. Disappointed with the result.

Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation SPF15

Colour

I have this in 3 Beige. The colour “disappears” on my face.

Coverage

This liquid foundation provides medium coverage.  It somewhat evens out my complexion, which has redness on my cheek around my nose. It does not cover my blemishes, so I need another concealer to cover them off. The texture is smooth and creamy, it does not dry my skin but at the same time it does not cause breakout either. It does not feel heavy; in fact I feel like I’m wearing nothing on my face. My colleague commented that I have nice skin when I have this foundation on. I can wear this in winter and in my heavily air conditioned office, without the fear of having dry skin.

Application

Fingers are sufficient. No brush or sponge necessary. Very easy to apply, no streak and it does not dry up too quickly. I notice that this foundation works better with makeup base. I use MAC Prep + Prime SPF 50.  After the foundation, I apply Bobbi Brown loose powder in 5 Soft Sand.

Lasting Power

My face gets oily after lunch time. If I don’t wear any primer, my face gets oily after a couple of hours max.

Photograph Effect

No “ghost face” visible. My skin usually looks even in photographs when I wear this foundation.

Price

Expensive, about SGD 60-70, can’t remember the price exactly as I bought this close to 2 years ago. (Hence it’s time to change!)

Summary

Overall great foundation. If I cannot find any better foundation, I know I can safely go back to this one.
